About Us

School of Harmony, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) non profit, community minded music and fine arts school located just south of Beckley, WV. With the hard work of dedicated volunteers, community giving and grants the former Shady Spring Jr. High building has been transformed into a center to support the arts through education. We invite you to browse our website and/or visit our location.

To foster excellence in fine arts, to challenge students of every age and background; to develop their talents, desires, and abilities; to assist students in achieving their pursuit of originality; to encourage them to find and enjoy their unique gifts and to be responsive and a blessing to the greater community.

The organization opened in 2005 as the “House of Harmony” in a little red house on Ritter Drive in Beaver, WV. The House of Harmony began with two music instructors teaching one night a week. By 2008, the organization grew to over 100 students and due to the rapid growth, decided to move to the former Shady Spring High School.

The School of Harmony has won numerous awards over the past several years including the 2012 West Virginia Governor’s Arts in Education Award and the 2012 Beckley Chamber of Commerce Property Redevelopment Award. In 2013, the School of Harmony began an initiative to become an All-Steinway School of Distinction.

The School of Harmony is committed to excellence, with a clear vision and a passion for delivering outstanding results in the fine arts, and enriching our Appalachian cultural musical heritage. It has never been a secret that idle time can produce unfavorable results in young and old alike. With the rampant threat of drug and alcohol abuse, we are thankful that we can offer an alternative outlet that will not fade but last a lifetime.
